1- CE MARKING FOR BOAT BUILDERS & BOAT OWNERS

For boatbuilders as well as boat owners we offer  a range of services for the CE marking of their models. We do consulting for such marking as well as for re-certifications for the increasing of the Design Category or the number of authorised persons aboard of already CE marked boats, tests testifying & fulfilling of the official reports according to the EC directives, so that the Notified Body HPI Verification Services, may issue the corresponding Design Category Certificate at a short notice.

2.- SMALL VESSELS CODING, MARITIME AND COASTGUARD AGENCY (UK)

We have in our staff an Authorized Surveyor (Examiner) by the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers and Ships Surveyors, an Authorised Certifying Authority, to perform the official surveys for the  Small Commercial Vessels MCA Coding, for boats and small ships under British flag (Red Ensign and its derivatives), both for a new register or the compulsory quinquennial renewals and intermediate inspections.

KEEPING A FOREIGN FLAG

The 2011’s Spanish Budget Law 39/2010 produced a modification of Article 65 of the Law 39/92 (import duties), and thus from 1st of January 2011 is already possible for a resident in Spain (national or not) to keep the flag of origin of imported pleasure crafts, and can navigate unrestricted Spanish waters under that flag, provided it has been duly paid the special tax on certain means of transport, or applied for exemption if the length is less 8 meters. This within 30 (general case) or 60 days (moving residency) from the date of entry into Spain or acquisition date if it is not clear enough.

This is a relevan regulatory progress for Spain, but it should be checked if the original Flag allows you to navigate unrestricted waters of another country. There are countries which allow it it with no problems, but are other who put a number of conditions. It is important to note that even some of those who allow it apparently freely, may put some collateral conditions that hinders the process. In all cases it will be necessary to comply with the maritime safety standards of the boat’s country flag.

 

FLAGGING/REGISTERING A BOAT IN SPAIN

For registration/flagging of a pleasure boat in Spain you must follow the provisions of RD 1435/2010 of November the 5th.

A. IMPORTING A BOAT WITH CE MARK 

Th’s a relatively simple process. We just take care of all the needed paperwork for the flagging/registering in Spain, guiding you about everything you need to do in the process.

 

B. VESSELS WITHOUT CE MARKING (IMPORTS, FINDINGS, AUCTIONS, etc).

If the boat lacks the CE marking and the model has not a previous to 16 June 1998 Spanish Maritime Authorities recognition and approval, then two processes apply:

a) If the boat is flagged in a country outside the EU, a CE marking is mandatory by means of a Post Construction Assessment.

b) If it is flagged in the EU it is mandatory to provide a technical requirements compliancy file drafted and signed by a competent technician, as required by RD 1435/2010.

In both cases we will help you thorugh the whole process, making it as easy as possible for you, producing the technical and administrative documents as necessary.

 

AMATEUR BOATBUILDING IN SPAIN

If you are one of those who want a unique and unmistakable boat, or you have the dream of making one with your own hands and then sail it away under spanish flag, you may also arrange the purchase of a design from the designer of your choice and we’ll validate and/or adapt it to the European and Spanish regulations, through the regulatory project signed by a competent technician in Spain. Or, alternatively, performing a Post Construction Assessment process as inspectors of a Notified Body to CE mark the boat once built.
